Dear OASIS Friends,

We are reaching out to update you on what the OASIS staff and board members have been up to over the past year. We have been exceptionally busy! In June 2021, OASIS board members and staff learned the housing authority was not going to renew our lease for our Owensboro Residential Services Facility. They needed this space for another project. This was an enormous shock and an unsettling revelation, since OASIS had resided and grown in the same location for 26 years. After careful deliberation, we decided to turn an unfortunate situation into an opportunity to empower ourselves and become stronger!

Our shelter opened in 1980. We serve domestic clients and their dependent children in our shelter and outreach offices. From October 1, 2021, to May 1, 2022, we served 849 clients, including 34 children. We reported 623 crisis calls, and 603 safety plans were created. Court advocates conducted 413 legal advocacies, and counselors and advocates provided 92 individual and 206 group counseling sessions. OASIS typically relocates two – three clients and their families each month to a new, safe home to start their future in one of the seven Green River Area Development District (GRADD) counties. As we come out of the pandemic, the need continues to grow.

We extend our sincere gratitude to area executives and GRADD for helping us obtain a substantial, necessary $1,000,000 grant from the Kentucky Department for Local Government to assist our move and relocation efforts. With these funds, OASIS will be able to continue serving individuals and families seeking solace from domestic violence at our new non-congregate shelter in Daviess County. This means women and men, with or without children, no matter their individual or collective needs, may be relocated to our new OASIS campus. The new OASIS campus will offer individual spaces: a room, an apartment, studio, or an efficiency suite.  We will also operate a fully functioning domestic violence shelter, with all our regular services: counseling, skills classes, daycare, computer library, workout facility, court advocacy services, and more. We are extremely proud to introduce an updated domestic violence shelter to our community: Kentucky’s first non-profit, non-congregate domestic violence shelter!

Now that you are up to speed, here is where YOU can help us! Below is a menu sponsorship option sheet. Please take the time to carefully consider what spaces we are offering clients seeking safety and imagine yourself being able to help thousands of women, men, and children escape danger and regain their independence! We have been working tirelessly with OASIS staff, government officials, the Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence, GRADD, architects, and realtors to keep the mission of OASIS alive. Our mission is “to provide shelter, support, and advocacy for families affected by domestic violence.” Our community depends on the services OASIS provides. We now depend on our community to help bring to fruition temporary private homes for our clients and their children who individually fight domestic violence, so they may soon regain independence. As always, we are so grateful for our donors and grantors. You all continue allowing us to serve our community. Thank you!

Respectfully,

Jamie Bisel, PA-C, OASIS Board Chair
Andrea Robinson, Executive Director
